Acoustic Thursday: The xx

I never thought of the band playing an acoustic session but they did, this is pretty old for the blog world. The xx played a session for AMerican Apparel’s Viva Radio back in November. They played the track ‘Crystallised’ from their debut albium “XX”. It is pretty old since their old guitarist is still with them. you can watcth the band play the song below and download the track below.

Department of Eagles Releasing Early Material Compilation

Daniel Rossen and Fred Nicolaus’ Department of Eagles are getting ready to release recordings that they worked on prior to 2008′s “In Ear Park” (my favorite of 2008). The compilation is titled “Archive 2003-2006″ and showcases material that the band worked on after the release of their debut album “The Cold Nose”. The only song I recognize from the tracklisting is ‘Deadly Disclousure’ which has been online forever. The album is set to be released on July 20 on American Dust in the US and Bella Union in the rest of the world. You can see the cover and tracklisting for the album below. (Photo credit: Ben Hopper)

Wavves Finish Recording Third Album

Nathan Williams had a tumultuous year after being praised by the blogosphere to the point where it looked he would have to retreat from the music world. He had a breakdown at a Spanish music festival, fought against a member of the Black Lips, and at one point needed Zach Hill of Hella to join his band because of the falling out with his former drummer. But now with Jay Reatard’s former band members he is done recording his new album. This is what he wrote in a post on his official blog:

WE ALSO FINISHED RECORDING A RECORD IN OXFORD MISSISSIPPI AND ARE CURRENTLY MIXING IT. SOUNDS CARAAAZAAAAAAYYY AND WILL BE OUT THIS SUMMER. SEEEEEE YA!

This will be Nathan Williams third album as Wavves and the follow-up to last year’s “Wavvves”. I hope its not titled “Wavvvves”.

New Jeremy Jay – Splash

California’s Jeremy Jay is going to be releasing two new albums this year and now we get to hear the first sample from the first album to be released this year. The track is the title track from the album titled ‘Splash’. It features a heavier guitar sound but still has his apathetic delivery. You can download the song below.

Beck’s Record Post Cover of INXS’ ‘Devil Inside’

At some point I am going to have to come up with better titles for these posts but the new Record Club has aonly posted three covers. New Video: Tanlines – Reinfo

Tanlines have released the video for their song ‘reinfo’. The song is the opener from their recent EP release “Settings”. It was made by a fan for his girldfirend and posted it on youtube, Tanlines saw it and liked it so mcuh that they decided to make it their official video. You can watch the video below.l

Blur Releasing New Single for Record Store Day

That’s right the British band who are now on some sort of hiatus are going to be releasing a single with all new material for Record Store Day. The single be will be relesaed as a 7″ vinyl, it all sounds great but the news comes from Thee Sun. This is what they said about the single

“Initially, Damon had no intention of going back into the studio with Blur. He’s been very busy with Gorillaz.”

“But he couldn’t resist seeing if the magic was still there with his old chums. And it was.”

“They’ve recorded a limited-edition 7in single which will be released a week tomorrow.”

There is still no title for the single and only 1000 will be available. This is very exciting since Damon Albarn has gone everywhere and said that the band was now done for good, but now maybe theyt will be keeping in touch maybe reuniting for new material in the near future.

Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi recently released his debut solo album titled “Go”. The album features lush orchestration and heavily layered tracks. When he plays the songs for radio sessions he only uses two instruments piano and ukelele. An example of this is when he played for WNYC prior to the release of his album. One of the songs ‘Around Us’ stands out in particular. You can download the song below.

New Cold Cave – Life Magazine (Pantha Du Prince Remix)

Cold Cave’s ‘Life Magazine’ is going to be released as a single. On the single there will be some remixes of the song. One of the remixes was done by Pantha Du Prince and it has now become available. He basically controls almost all portions of the original song, slowing down the vocals, repeating them if necessary. The song bares little resemblance to the original. The single will be out on June 8 via Matador, the tracklisting is below along with the remix.

No Age Giveaway Live Performance of Short Film Soundtrack

Los Angeles noise duo No Age are now giving away their performance of their score for the Rodarte short film Aanteni. They performed the score for the film live last Wednesday in Los Angeles at the Red Cat, its about 16-minutes long. The band made the performance available on their blog.
